Dialogue with the Dynamic : A candid conversation with Swati Bhagavat


1. Why you chose your respective field?

The arm of providence and destiny bought me to the door of SPR. While I always wanted to start something of my own, I never had a restaurant in mind. However, a couple of years ago, I had a few friends home for breakfast , we had made some South Indian breakfast for them, and they couldn't stop raving about it! "The chutney is awesome", "The dosa is so yummy!!" and so on. That's when it occurred to me that we have some delicious home made cuisines which we should use to start a restaurant. Finally, I had found my calling! And now, to be serving it to the community is like a dream come true!

2. As an entrepreneur, what was the hardest thing you had to face and how did you overcome it?

When we started working on building SPR, we had no idea about starting a restaurant. So, most of the steps we had to take were challenging for us. However, the hardest thing we had to face to find the right cooks who could do justice to our recipes. We tried out so many of them. But nothing clicked. We were just a few days away from opening the restaurant to the public and we still didn't have anyone! It was easily the most nerve wrecking experience of my life! But, in the end, by the grace of god,the right cooks landed at our doorsteps and they were perfect!

3. The most memorable moment of the entrepreneurship journey so far?

the most memorable moment for me is actually a historic one . When the maharaja of mysore drove in, I actually held my breath and I was ecstatic s When he wrote "SPR serves the best dosas in mysore "

4. How has Mysuru influenced your growth?

I was born and brought up in Mysuru. The city means the world to me! It has its obvious charm but also has great untapped potential. It is a booming tourist hotspot, has top class infrastructure, and the people here love to try new things! I realized all of this early on in my life. That's when I decided that if I were ever to start a business it would be here. We designed our restaurant concept to match what we felt would work best for the people of Mysuru.

5. Your advise to aspiring/budding women entrepreneurs?

My advice to budding women entrepreneurs would be to believe in themselves and take on their dreams wholeheartedly. I truly believe that sky is the limit for us. There aren't enough women entrepreneurs and it is up to us to change that. We have leadership and managerial qualities that men cannot emulate. Trust in yourself and go forth!
