Nityotsava, Mysuru’s Green Jewel: A Convention Center Without Plastic
From refusing mineral water bottles to serving food on banana leaves, this venue is rewriting event norms for a greener tomorrow.
In a world where lavish events often end with piles of plastic and leftover waste, one venue in Mysuru is quietly but boldly making a difference. Nityotsava Convention Center has become a symbol of responsible celebration—a place where sustainability meets style and tradition meets environmental consciousness.
Launched in 2016, Nityotsava is not just a convention center—it’s a mission in motion. Owned by the hospitality division of Nestwell Constructions Pvt. Ltd., the initiative is led by Mr. Nirmith Nityanand, who was driven by a vision to reduce environmental impact through conscious choices in event hosting.
“We decided from day one—no plastic, no mineral water bottles, and no compromises,” shares Mr. Nityanand, whose passion for the planet laid the foundation for this eco-first venue.
Walking the Talk: Plastic-Free in Practice
From the very first event, Nityotsava laid down ground rules:
-
No mineral water bottles—guests are served water in reusable polycarbonate cups.
-
Food is served on banana leaves, ditching disposable plates entirely.
-
Plastic bags are not allowed inside the venue—only paper or jute alternatives are welcome.
While these choices led to initial client hesitations, the team stood firm. Today, Nityotsava is recognized and respected for exactly those values.
Sustainable Architecture That Gives Back
Their commitment to sustainability goes beyond bans and rules—it’s embedded in their very structure. The building is roofed with Mangalore tiles, enabling rainwater harvesting. This harvested water is filtered through an RO plant and used for drinking, making the venue largely self-sufficient and water-conscious.
In 2017, these efforts were recognized when the Builders’ Association of India (BAI) awarded Nityotsava the title of ‘Green Building of the Year’.
A Message from the Founder
“Nature gives us everything. What we give back truly matters,” says Mr. Nityanand. “We’re doing our bit for the environment, and we’re grateful to the people of Mysuru who support us. This city has always been green at heart, and we want to help keep it that way.”
More Than a Venue—A Movement
In a culturally rich and environmentally aware city like Mysuru, Nityotsava isn’t just a place to celebrate—it’s a model to follow. It shows us that big change doesn’t always need grand gestures. Sometimes, it begins with saying no to a plastic bottle or yes to a leaf plate.
Celebration and conservation can go hand-in-hand. Nityotsava is living proof.
Great to see still businesses consider such practises! My appreciation for the owner!
