McDonald’s India Teams Up with Mysuru’s CSIR-CFTRI for Nutritious Multi-Millet Burger Buns

McDonald’s India Partners with CSIR-CFTRI to Introduce Multi-Millet Bun

This National Nutrition Week, McDonald’s India (West & South), operated by Westlife Foodworld, has joined hands with Mysuru’s renowned CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) to launch an industry-first Multi-Millet Bun. This new offering brings a nutritious upgrade to McDonald’s popular burgers, showcasing the brand’s commitment to healthier menu options.

Nutritious Millets Meet Classic McDonald’s Taste

The Multi-Millet Bun allows customers to enjoy the same beloved McDonald’s flavors—whether it’s the McAloo Tikki or the McSpicy Paneer—enhanced with the nutritional benefits of millets. The bun is made from five millets: Bajra, Ragi, Jowar, Proso, and Kodo. These superfoods are known for their high nutritional content, providing essential vitamins, minerals, and natural dietary fiber.

McDonald’s India is sourcing these millets directly from farmers across seven states—Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh—reinforcing its commitment to local, sustainable agriculture through a ‘farm-to-fork’ model.

Chef Sanjeev Kapoor Joins the Journey

To promote this new addition, McDonald’s collaborated with Padma Shri Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, a well-known advocate of millet-based cuisine. Chef Kapoor features in a new campaign, where he surprises customers by personally recommending the Multi-Millet Bun, adding a touch of extra goodness to their favorite burgers.

A CSIR-CFTRI Innovation

McDonald’s collaboration with CSIR-CFTRI marks a significant leap in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) sector. CSIR-CFTRI, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, played a key role in developing the Multi-Millet Bun, combining the health benefits of millets with McDonald’s high standards for taste and quality.

Arvind R.P., CMO of McDonald’s India (West & South), commented, “This collaboration with CSIR-CFTRI reflects our dedication to menu innovation that combines the best of traditional superfoods and modern food science. The Multi-Millet Bun is a delicious and nutritious option that our customers will appreciate.”

Healthier Choices for McDonald’s Fans

McDonald’s India’s new Multi-Millet Bun is a significant step in its ongoing ‘Real Food Real Good’ journey. It aligns with the company’s focus on offering more nutritious options without compromising on taste. Now available across 400 McDonald’s restaurants in West and South India, customers can enjoy their favorite burgers with a healthy twist, whether dining in, using the Drive-Thru, or ordering via McDelivery.

This partnership with CSIR-CFTRI and the introduction of the Multi-Millet Bun showcases McDonald’s commitment to offering wholesome, sustainable, and delicious food choices for its customers.
