Breaking Barriers: Captain Supreetha CT from Mysore Makes History in Siachen

In the rugged and unforgiving terrain of Siachen, where temperatures can plummet to a bone-chilling -60°C, history is being made. Captain Supreetha CT has become the first woman from the Corps of Army Air Defence (AAD) to be operationally deployed at the world’s highest battlefield. This remarkable achievement is a testament to her resilience, determination, and pioneering spirit.

A Journey of Endurance and Strength

The Indian Army’s announcement on X celebrated her deployment: “Breaking Barriers… Conquering Challenges… Captain Supreetha C T joins the league of #SiachenWarriors.” This is no small feat. Before her deployment, Captain Supreetha underwent a grueling one-month training program at the Siachen Battle School. This training included endurance drills, ice wall climbing, and rigorous survival exercises, all designed to prepare her for the extreme conditions of the Northern Glacier.

From Mysore to Siachen: A Trailblazing Path

Captain Supreetha first caught the nation’s attention during the Republic Day parade in 2024, where she and her husband, Major Jerry Blaize, marched as members of two separate contingents. This was the first time a married couple from the Indian Army had this honor. Hailing from Mysore, Karnataka, and a law graduate from JSS Law College, Captain Supreetha’s journey to Siachen is a story of perseverance and passion.

Her husband, Major Jerry Blaize, from the Madras Regiment, also has a distinguished career. Their paths crossed during their National Cadets Corps (NCC) days, and they got married in June 2023. Their shared commitment to serving the nation is inspiring, making their Republic Day parade participation a momentous occasion for both.

The Legacy of Women in Siachen

Captain Supreetha joins a small but growing group of women who have braved the harsh conditions of Siachen. Before her, Captain Shiva Chouhan from the Bengal Sappers was the first woman officer deployed at Siachen in January 2023. Following her, Captain Geetika Koul and Captain Fatima Wasim, both from the Army Medical Corps, were deployed in December 2023. These trailblazers have paved the way for more women to serve at the world’s highest battlefield, showcasing their strength and resilience.

A Future of Endless Possibilities

Captain Supreetha’s deployment is not just a personal achievement; it’s a beacon of hope and possibility for countless young women across India. Her journey from Mysore to Siachen is a powerful reminder that with determination and hard work, no barrier is insurmountable. As she stands tall among the #SiachenWarriors, she embodies the spirit of courage, breaking new ground and inspiring the next generation of women officers in the Indian Army.

A Legacy of Courage and Perseverance

Captain Supreetha CT’s story is one of courage, determination, and breaking barriers. From her days in the NCC to making history in Siachen, her journey is a source of inspiration. As she continues to serve at the world’s highest battlefield, her legacy will inspire many more to follow in her footsteps, proving that with strength and perseverance, anything is possible.
